How It’s Made
The design begins digitally, where the individual elements are composed and sculpted into a detailed 3D relief suitable for CNC carving.
The complete piece is then CNC carved from solid wood, gradually removing material to create the layered foliage, birds, flowers, bamboo, lettering and smaller decorative details.
Once carving is complete, the piece is cleaned and finished by hand. Rather than completely covering the timber, I use layers of acrylic colour, washes, shading and dry brushing to bring out the carved detail while still allowing the texture and character of the wood to remain visible.
The bamboo-style key hooks are carved as part of the overall design, before the entire piece receives its final protective finish.
The result is a piece that sits somewhere between wall art and functional homeware — individually made rather than mass produced, with all the small variations that come with a genuinely handcrafted item.
