How It’s Made
This piece begins as a custom-designed relief carving, with the bookshelf, storybook spines, characters, bridge, waterfall, and woodland details individually sculpted to create a layered three-dimensional scene. Using CNC carving technology, each element is carefully carved from wood before being refined and detailed by hand.
Once carved, the artwork is sealed and hand-painted using multiple layers of acrylic paints, washes, and highlighting techniques. The books are individually coloured to create contrast and visual interest, while the woodland scene is painted to evoke the warmth and charm of a storybook illustration. Particular attention is given to the characters and natural textures, helping each element stand out while maintaining a cohesive composition.
